While there have been several rainouts at Airborne this year, the handful of races that have gotten in have been nothing short of spectacular. On opening day, local favorite Bucko Branham won the 100 lap Tiger Tour race. He dominated the race by leading every lap, however failed post race tech inspection due to not meeting the minimum weight requirement. Described as a mistake by the team, the following race they came back with a heavier car and went out and won the regular 35 lap Tiger Sportsman feature. Other front runners in the Tiger series include FUN Racing team members of Toby Ebersole, Skip Liberty, and Shawn Duquette. Sophomore Tiger driver Richie Turner Jr. has a feature win and Jim Bushey has one feature win as well. The Tiger series is always very competitive and produces much side by side racing which fans absolutely love.

One of the hottest 358 Modified drivers has been Don Scarborough. He has multiple feature wins already this season. Defending champion Leon Gonyo has been extremely strong as well. Veteran driver Mike Bruno is in a modified and has been a major front runner. Driving in two divisions, Bucko Branham has one modified feature win under his belt this year as well. On Saturday, July 9th, there was no racing at Airborne however the Monster Truck Series was in town for a few shows. The modifieds did race, however, up in Sanair Quebec for a special show. Airborne General Manager Mike Perotte was present and in the feature event was running away with the race. However, due to car problems he had to make a green flag pit stop obviously taking him out of contention. The battle for second quickly became the battle for first. Those two cars were driven by none other than Leon Gonyo and Bucko Branham. Unfortunately I was not present at this race, but I understand it was quite a battle. Lap after lap they battled for the lead, running each other extremely clean. Bucko could not get past Leon on the outside but was right there lap after lap so Leon received the win with Branham second. I hear that the fans were ecstatic about this, on their feet and it has even been predicted that there will probably be more cars with Quebec license plates in the parking lot of Airborne on Saturday nights. I say they would be more than welcomed and enjoy the local racing we all enjoy and love on Saturday nights.

The other divisions at Airborne have been very entertaining as well. The other divisions include the 8 cylinder Renegade (Street Stock) division, and two 4 cylinder divisions. The 4 cylinder cars are divided into 16 valve racers and 12 valve racers. Next segment I will write more about these other three very exciting divisions.
